Deliver Peace of Mind

Rodney is an exceptional athlete, world record holder, and one of our clients.

“It’s been a saviour to me,” says Rodney about the food delivered by Halifax Meals on Wheels. At 60 years of age, he has had an incredible life of experiences. Rodney is an exceptional athlete: A member of the Canadian national downhill disabled ski team from 1982-86 during which he competed in two world championships as well as the 1984 Paralympics in Austria; he holds a 1980 world record in disabled track and field 1500 metres and for three years was part of the Canadian national goal ball team. Rodney, who is visually impaired, first moved to Halifax to attend the School for the Blind when he was 15 years old. He is the epitome of independence, but for many years he didn’t take care of his health and well-being. “I should have been proud, but I wasn’t. I was getting down and I was living on frozen lasagna. Nothing was appealing to me,” says Rodney. “Now, I’ve gained weight and I’m healthier. It’s almost as good as a home cooked meal.”
